Social Media and Networking in Music Streaming Services (Bandcamp/Spotify): Introduction to Bandcamp
Spotify is not the only music streaming service that managed to integrate social media elements into its app or website.
Bandcamp is another recent good example on how social media was integrated into its own services.
But before we continue, time for the introduction to Bandcamp:
What is Bandcamp?
Bandcamp is a customisable micro-site that allows musicians to upload music they've created for sharing.

This is what a typical artist's bandcamp page looks like |
Bandcamp also allows for artists to offer free music downloads with the option to donate to the artist or to receive a free track or album by joining the artist's email list.
As a social network:
Bandcamp isn't only open just for artists.

A typical bandcamp page for non-artists |
Non-musicians/music fans are able to showcase their Bandcamp music collections, follow their favourite artists, explore the music of their contemporaries, add items to a wishlist, and more.

Its availability on Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store makes things convenient for bandcamp users as well. |
Though there are other platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud, Bandcamp aims to be one of the few services among the other two to be known as the place to discover new music on the Internet.
As much as I'd like to start comparing Spotify and Bandcamp right now, I'd rather save that for later in the next post.
That said, In my next post, I will be discussing on the differences between Spotify and Bandcamp.
Thank you for reading!
